Yay kk~ adding to our chaos! I have a friend that Ikeep telling to join. I know once she does, she'll be an addict too. She only has 1 BA that showed up at her house, so she adopted it.

We all know that 1 BA needs a chicken friend or two. Perhaps dropping a little baby basket on her porch with a note saying "I am just too cute to cook"

Well, we had the terrible wind here today too - dropped our temps from the 75 degree beautiful days to 55. Only got 2 eggs out of 5 today. Can't wait for this cold front to move through and get back to our nice days so I can continue working on the garden!

I'm not one to complain too much, but this is really hitting me for a loop. I never expected that poisen ivy would be in that horrible vine I ripped away from the house. I am having a severe reaction. Heading to the doctor first thing in the morning for a cortisone shot. My right arm is swollen to double the normal size. The skin is stretching so much, it hurts!

I took some benydryl last night, think I am going to do the same tonight!

Hello all. Sorry about the poison ivy and Duke, MB. I though Duke was gone the day the new ones came in. I love the names you picked for them. I hope the transition goes smoothly.
I know what you all mean about chicken math. I had 8 girls. The dog got me down to 2 and now I am at.... I am afraid to say... a dozen.. And I still want my blue Andalusians. I was going to get a couple from a lady that ordered on-line but a lot of the chicks did not make it. Not sure if I will just not do it or wait for my feed store to get them. It would be nice to have a few white eggs among all the colors that I will have... I am glad that my run is large I am thinking of building another pen... for the turkey and other turkey that don't stay (Thanksgiving broad-breasted). and anything else that comes our way... I have seen pea hen at the animal shelter and other interesting birds. A guinea fowl and red game birds. The last I am not sure what they mean. there is no pic... I may just have to go down there and have a look. In our area you just never know what might turn up. I should be ready for it... I was not ready for the pea hen and someone else took her home. Oh well... next time.
Oh and there is one lady at work that I helped get into chickens. She bought 3. I told her about this website... hopefully she will make it here. There is also another teacher that wants turkeys. I love this... we slowly infect more people into our fowl world

Mmmmmmm twas sooo good.
Much better than midnight Oreo attack!

So my 3 mutts started laying last week. Most small, Brown hard eggs, except the gal that looks like a BR, hers have been soft. Today she labored in the nest for half hour and laid a tiny tiny pink egg! But, it had a hard shell! She's getting better lol.

I actually don't, thank you for the tip, I will head out today and certainly find it, as you said, good to have for the chickens! Thanks,, I'm in agony!

You are so right MCM,,,, it is a LOT healthier than oreos! what a great Hubby,,, love that!

So, Update....

The only way we could ever get anywhere near Duke is to give it a go of grabbing him off the roost at night. DH and I waited until it was dark for a good two hours and out we went, with only a small glow from my IPhone to see. Of course, my first attempt he got away from me, and then everyone was crazy upset. He is one strong MOFO, excuse my french. I had to climb into the coop, and he was flapping like a maniac. He instinctively went towards the people door of the coop, and flew up in DH's face. He threw his glove at him, and what a scene it was. I had brought a towel out with me, and I made one last ditch grab, and threw the towel over him, and got a hold of him. He fought but I was able to get him into the dog crate. I put him in the feed room with a towel over it to try and keep him calm. I had a hard time falling asleep, thinking about getting him as a little day old when we thought his name was Maisy...lol. I know I am doing the right thing, he is just far too mean, mean mean. I can't risk having him hurt a child, and it's just not a nice atmosphere with him always flying up at a moments notice. It goes far beyond just concerned for his girls, he is aggressive, and unsafe. Still makes me feel a bit sad nonetheless.

Clark and Vivian are out of the horse stall finally and into a temporary section of the run where they will soon be sharing with the flock. I spent the entire morning till right now cleaning out rabbit hutches, cleaning out the coop, and setting up this temporary pen for the flock to meet the new birds through the fence. I have to tell you, without Duke around making everyone nuts, I can't tell you how peaceful it was in the sun, on this beautiful day, starting spring cleaning. I saw a bit of pecking about without the man of the house around to get in the middle, but nothing too serious. The girls all came up curious to see what I was doing, and that hasn't happened in months. All very mellow, and easy. I had to let the girls out to free range to set up the pen, and they want nothing to do with meeting the new pair. They sort of looked at them very unimpressed. It is going to be a bit wild come tomorrow when I let the new pair integrate without the fence between them. Yesterday, I put Sadie in the horse stall with the two new ones for a while, and he went bonkers mating with her. The woman I bought the pair from warned me of that. She said not to think he is a super aggressive roo, but will go nuts with the new girls mating any chance they will allow to establish he is the new leader of the pack. I am also going to keep them all in lock down for a good 3 or 4 days so the new pair learn that that is now home base. I am going to be a nervous wreck the first week or so, since he has to learn the lay of the land. My neighbor told me she has seen the fox an awful lot lately, I hope Clark is up to the task. Lots of hawks too. Hope all goes well.
