Hi, You are certainly starting off right. The coop you have built is really roomy. I covet the size. I have a dog house size coop which the chickens live in only over night; there are 6 of them and it is enough for sleeping. They do mostly get on the roosting bars and there is room. I lock them up to protect them from varmints at night and open the door in the day, they have the run of my back yard. Please post a picture of your coop.
 
Okay. The chicken looks like a Rhode Island Red, I have a Rhode Island Red and it looks exactly the same but lays brown eggs.

Hi, I opened the door of the coop this morning and three hens were in the nesting box, all locations were filled!! Yes, I received 3 brown eggs. I live next door to folks who own an Italian restaurant, they give me old garlic rolls, all natural, and I soak them in water which has chicken vitamins in it, the chicks gobble them up real fast. Also, I give them spaghetti and they gobble that up so fast. I have discovered that they are like dogs we had, they tasted people food and did not want dog food. WELL those chickens want people food and pass up good corn, and all natural pellets for Italian food. Soooooooooo, I wait until they at least eat some good chicken good before offering them the extras. I think these Rhode Island Reds are now Italian Chickens. NO there is not garlic taste in the eggs! Yet?

I'd love to wait with you guys. I'm brand new to this, got a tiny backyard flock in busy Miami, FL. Got Lola, 9 weeks, she's a golden comet. Fifi is 15 weeks, a barred rock, and she 'could' start laying by early January.

I just got an 8 month old Amerecauna, Iggy, and we picked her up yesterday. She is freaked out. Don't know when I'll see an egg!!
 
Here in sunny California we finally got rain. Really loved it... Did any of you hear? We actually got a small tornado in Las Angelas. Lucky it was a very small one but it was a real one. Did a little damage and excited a lot of people. Also lucky that I am over an hour away from there... We are to get a couple of more storms in this coming week. It will be good to finally have a real winter... Though I am hoping for less damage.
I have heard that the four girls I gave up are doing good. One of them even laid an egg for her new family. They are very excited.

Never too late to join the Waitin Game!! We love new peeps! Ameraucanas can be jumpy at first but she'll settle in, no worries!
