I've always enjoyed bird watching, and I realized after spending two hours in the yard photographing and identifying birds that it's becoming clear that I am a bird nerd. Anyone else enjoy bird watching?

I love bird watching too

Whilst the ducks are out I like to sit and watch for interesting little birds

Here in England we have wild parakeets which like to fly around my back garden which is always exciting to watch!

Ohhh I've always loved birdwatching ever since I was a teenager! ~grins~ We live in a wooded/field/pasture area so we get some pretty interesting varieties here. Red-tailed hawks, barred owls (which live in the in-laws old barn nextdoor) and so much more. I have seen a Wood Hen out here tears ago but haven't since. I'd love to see one again!

I'm not really a bird nerd but I do love to watch the wild birds while I'm watching my hens. They are really interesting. For instance, I had no idea that doves fought! They batter each other with one wing, and their threatening posture is to hold one wing up. I have doves, cardinals, blue jays, sparrows, and my favorite - mockingbirds. On occasion I see other species like crows, starlings, and of course there is a hawk couple around. Love it when I see the crows harassing the hawks! I even saw a mockingbird run a hawk off once. I had no idea they could do that, love my mockingbirds! I have a feeder that I fill with exactly the same amount of food every day at the same time. I don't want them dependent on me for more than 1/2 cup or so of feed a day. Even that small amount attracts lots of birds though and gets them looking around the rest of the yard to supplement their diets. And sometimes I run some rice through my grain mill just to crack it and spread that around. Both the wild birds and my chickens like to find that.

Saw my hawk again today. I thought they were after my chickens. Been seeing them at least once a day for a week now here. Turns out, they're after the doves! The doves get into the chicken feed a little and scratch around close to the coop. Hawks are trying to dive bomb the doves! I guess the chickens weren't an easy enough meal. They must be pretty hungry. This one continued to try for a dove meal even after I ran out there but eventually I got close enough that it took off.

I love sitting the back yard and just watching the birds. We are having a drought but I have 2 ponds in my back yard so they all know where to get a drink. Everyone around visits here from time to time and between them, my chickens, and now my quail, I have tons of watching to do

- though it's not all what you'd call "bird watching" I'm still watching birds hehe.
