I have found Bald-faced Hornets to be the most docile of the hornets we get here. They've never bothered me.

I think your mystery butterfly is a Pearl Crescent, but it could be a Silvery Checkerspot. I think Pearl because of the more "lacey" inner wing pattern but not an expert...These are photos I've taken last couple years. I was searching for my Bald-Faced Hornet photos but haven't found them yet.

Yellowjackets are highly beneficial insects, so keep killing to a minimum as much as you can. A lot of yellowjackets means there's an abundance of crop killers and other pests like grubs, caterpillars, and fliesWe have bad yellow jackets here, in fact one town south of here is named Twisp which means yellow jacket. We bought some fly stripsticks to hang buy our door. They work great for flies, but also catching yellow jackets like crazy.
