The whole homeschooling thing has been the biggest blessing in my life, along side my children & DH of course!

I love being in control of my children's education and knowing exactly what they are learning. It's also nice to know that my children don't have to worry anymore about being harassed by teachers and other kids.

"Un-schooling" is exactly what I had to do for the whole first year after I pulled my kids out of the public school system. It was scary to find out that my 7th grader couldn't multiply or divide without a calculator. He completely forgot how to do it!

Boy, the public school system should just be so proud. :thun

I didn't think this many people are home shooled or home school. A couple people down the road form us home school to.

My daughter is 8 and we've homeschooled from the start and are loving it! My husband and I are both teachers, he's actually a principal now so that'a kind of a laugh!
I think there are a lot more of us out there than anybody realizes. It's just the mainstream likes to keep thinking we're the on the fringe!
We love homeschooling!
We love chickens!
We love this site!

I also have lots of info on curriculum if anybody needs an opinion

I homeschool all three of mine. I have 4th, 6th and 12th graders. I wouldn't have it any other way if it were up to me. Jess will be graduating soon. She could have graduated now, but I will have her do at least one semester of her senior year. But Austin's dad is trying to put him back in school next year, so I am praying for a miracle to keep him home.... which is what he wants too. And Caity will be home for good.

Overall, it is the best and only way to educate your kids IMHO. Caity has learning needs that would never be met in school on a one on one basis. And all three of them are as smart as can be, not mention mature, kind and compassionate. I am truly blessed with my kids.

We use Abeka mainly with some saxon for math. Abeka is outstanding, but doesn't always follow the state standards. Since we are part of a charter, we have to take the star tests. We use the money they get from the state for fun classes like ice skating, lego engineering, sewing, cooking, dance, horse back riding etc and I buy all the books out of pocket off ebay.

I have four kids but only two are homeschooled now. My oldest is doing 7th grade work but is actually only in sixth. My next oldest is in 1st grade. The other two are too young. We started homeschooling because of the public school situation also. My kids are supposed to go to a school 20+ miles away. The bus ride alone is well over an hour each way. We love it (most of the time) too. I will admit though, some days i want to run screaming from the house!

wow.such testimony on the benefits of homeschooling......being a single mom it was most difficult to do, I did manage it for a year........then back to public school and me working way to many hours. I did however put my youngest son right out of 11 grade....saw him slipping away....OUT he came.... it was the best thing we ever did........ we did our best.......then he went into Job Corp to finish his Diploma, not GED....then off to the Army. I sure am proud of how hard he worked NOT to go back to public school !
