Hello!
I used to have a rat when I was younger, and two of my sisters did, too. We had three males (mine was the biggest). They were DISGUSTING and a bit stinky. Mice are probably more stinky, though, speaking from experience. So, my first and only experience with owning rats wasn't the greatest...Like I said, we were all younger back then, so also weren't too good at keeping up with cage cleaning. Plus, my rat was mean and would bite if given the chance (but my younger sister's rat was nice as could be and would never bite but lick instead).
However, I might like to own a couple rats again, but at this point, nope. I have a gerbil and two African Soft Furred rats right now, and they're enough rodent-wise. My mom also won't let me get anymore rats. I've had a decent amount of mice, but need to take a long break from them...they stank horribly!, both the males and females (the males even worse, perhaps).
My current rodents don't have a scent at all, but the ASF rats are extremely messy and destructive in their cage, and they used to be shy but nice, but now? They will try to bite my fingers sometimes...I have no idea why they suddenly turned mean when they used to not bite me at all, unlike the rats and mice.
