Any paintballers? I have questions about using a pb gun on dog.

I have used a paintball gun on my old neighbor's dog and it works! This dog was coming from 2 houses down onto our 5 acre property which was next to a family member's 33 acre property so fencing is not always cheap or effective whe you're dealing with a large piece of land; t-posts, line, and an energizer are expensive for those of us on a fixed buget. We only had rabbits and dogs at that time but our dogs are american pitbull terriers. They were chained in kennels but this dog would come onto our property and go to our dog's gates and harass them to the point that one gate was completely destroyed from the inside several times because my dog wanted out so bad. I took every precaution to prevent my dogs getting loose but this neighbor didn't care. We talked over and over warning him that we exercise our dogs in the field off-leash and if something happened it wasn't our fault. It didn't matter, the dog was still allowed to roam. The last straw was when the dog was trying to get our rabbits from the bottom mesh of the cage. We didn't want to kill the dog because it wasn't the dog's fault, it was the owner's. After a few incidents with the paintball gun, the dog never came back; it scared the dog away every time. I'm not positive contact was ever made or if the owner decided to contain his dog or not but it didn't come back.

nope, paintballs don't hurt at all

that's why, in some areas, using a paintball gun to shoot a dog will get YOU a visit from the cops. Be sure to check out the laws in your local area - not by asking the cops but by discussing it with the prosecuting attorney or a defense attorney.

Go for paint ball option. Try to make it so dog does not know you did the shooting. Best training session would be when dog is actually interested in chickens, not simply being in yard. Despite no real harm, neighbor might reconsider effort to control dog in future upon seeing paint splotch.

With respect to fencing, for long-term it is the way to go since next loss could just as easily involve another dog or one you do not know.

For me the business of dealing with neighbors on this issue has been touchy but with most I am getting it so most of the local dogs are not a threat even when loosed. I have lost birds in process but not many.
I think if a dog is trying to after your chickens, dogs or anything on your property I think a paintball gun is ok to use if the other dog is the aggressive one

Exploring options here...

Neighbors nicely bred unaltered male hunting dog keeps coming onto my property to check out my chickens and turkeys. He hasn't done anything yet...
The first time I caught him out there at the run I called the owner. He came and got the dog and told me he wouldn't "let him out for a while". So my assumption here is that the owner is actually letting the dog out to roam. Today the dog was here three times before the owner heard me yelling at him and hollered for him.
I do not wish to have a crappy relationship with this neighbor, but I don't want his dog here either.
I was wondering if there is a low powered paintball gun on the market, that would not hurt the dog, but would leave a nice big splat of pink on his butt? Maybe scare the dog into not coming back. I understand the risk of hitting him the eye or something, but it beats outright shooting him to kill.
Open to ideas.
I was thinking about the paint mark on the dogs butt sending a clear message to the owner.... I can use electric fence around my chicken coop, but that doesn't stop him from coming on the property. It's not just the birds, I also have horses and I have 4 of my own dogs who bark when he comes around. My dogs are contained on my own property.
I am having a similar situation with the neighbors dog. Ive taken the neighbors to court and they were told they have to keep the dog off my property and to do that they agreed to put the dog out on a run. That has worked for about 4 months but it got loose the other day about gave me a heart attack because it hates my Bichon and comes after it whenever there's an opportunity. I want to sting it's butt with something without getting in trouble or killing the dog. It just stinks that I'm on guard whenever I take her out to potty. My other option is to fence in part of the property. I got two estimates for 166 feet of fence which was 7 k. Really??? It just stinks!!!
