Any reallife contractors on here? I need some help, Not a coop!

Oooo, then check out a book called "The Not So Big House". I can't remember the author/architect's name, but it's a woman. They are really interesting. She designs these perfect little homes that are 300-500 sq feet. They are adorable! The best part about her stuff is how she tucks storage space all over the place. Her work is really interesting in it's absolute use of every smidgy bit of space. And they are adorable.

Good luck. Definitely post pics when you get on your way. I'd love to see what you build!

Have you considered getting one of the larger pre-made storage building that are full construction models built like a small home? It could VERY easily be insulated and dry walled on the inside and outfitted as a cottage style 'guest house' with a tiny closet sized efficiency kitchen.

I have seen some great looking buildings that would make awesome guest houses.

Her name is Sarah Susanka and I think the places you are talking about weren't designed by her but she chooses such good architects - those ones were designed by someone for an intentional community of very small houses. Sweet.

Good luck.

Ahh... I couldn't remember. I do remember absolutely loving the little cottage community. I wish there was something like that around here! The small cottages were so sweet.

Thanks for the clarification!

similar to Miss Prissy's idea- how about a prefab garage- you could get the smallest one they sell, modify it a bit and when she's gone return it to a garage. Good luck, it's easy to say let her sink or swim, but not as easy to figure out when you don't have all the facts like we do and even harder to figure out when you do have all the facts like you do with all your emotions involved as well. We do what we can for our kids and often put out more than we get back, but someday they figure it out. It's an awful expensive and long over due thank you when they realize this. Good luck to you.
