I recently bought a bag of Layena to try for my hens but it is only 16% protein. I'd like to get it up to about 20%. Any ideas for something that I could add to it that would not cost too much money? Any suggestions for a good pelleted feed that contains animal protein and is around 20% protein?

Purina Flock Raiser is 20% protein, and is good for all ages and sexes--roos, laying hens, and chicks. Just add some crushed egg shells or oystershell for calcium in a separate bowl on the side for layers.

I have been feeding flockraiser, but in my area it is only available in crumbles and I would like something with animal protein in it.

Haven't started feeding the layena yet. They are still on flockraiser right now.

I usually add gamebird feed at 30% protein, cat food, BOSS and recently found out about catfish pellets at 32% protein.

Why the search for the higher protein?
Do laying hens need the higher protein? I think if they did the feed companies would suggest it.
