I would think that most of why you would do best to go to classes is so your dog can get used to being around other dogs in a controlled enviornment with instruction and direction. Your dog will learn to let people approach and be trusting of you completely.
Ask your 4H club to put together a once a week 45 min class.
Or check with Petco?
you can take your dog to obedience and just don't teach him to do the auto-sit after heeling.
