The pullets only get a scattering of scratch as a special treat, or if I need to make them gather in a particular spot for awhile (out of my way while working in their yard). It's pretty much like candy or "chicken crack".

I did use it over Christmas when introducing my 3 year old grandson to the chickens (his 1st time in their yard, up close & personal, instead of just poking salad leaves through the gate for them). He loved the way they eagerly gathered around him, waiting for the next few kernels to drop, and I showed him how to hold a handful so they'll eat it out of our hands. City kid who lives in an apartment; he was thrilled! He got to feed and pet REAL CHICKENS. :love

Sooooo, you may be wondering why I called you all here, I’m kidding (get to the point of what you’re trying to say already lady!) has anyone used scratch?
I buy a 6 or 7-grain scratch and mix that with other grains and Kalmback's Henhouse Reserve to ferment.

I also use Kalmbach's Henhouse Reserve as a scratch since when I fed it to them they wasted so much. They're on layer/all flock crumbles.

They're silkies so I want them to eat more of their feed/ferment to prevent vitamin deficiencies.
