Any suggestions for what to plant to help feed the chickens?

You should grow corn but in the summer grow dark green leafy vegetables like lettuce, collard greens, spinach,etc. I have noticed with my flock that they tend to favor cabbage. If you hang it from the ceiling it give them great entertainment when they are cooped up over the winter months.

Kale has worked out well for me. They love it, and it's easy to grow. Will stay green all winter here if you put a little hoophouse over it. Smaller plants fare better than larger plants going into winter.
