The inside of my coop can get lots of flies. I clean the coop weekly and spray down all of there toys as well. I just need to find a fly deterrent that wont affect the chickens. Same goes for the chicken run, covered in flies. I pick up any food scraps older than 1 day old. I just cant figure out how to get rid of them. Suggestions?

Get rid of the poop.

Seriously. Pick up the poop daily, not weekly.
Well I will have to go to school...and I don't think I will have time on my schedule during school. Unless I clean on the weekends. I will try that now but it will have to be weekly. Plus there mine and I'm the only one who cares for them.

We use fly traps, the disposable kind. The downside is they smell really bad, so you would want to hang them far from the house. Or you could get the tape that flies stick to.

If you're serious about getting rid of the flies, you will find time to pick up the poop. I've gotten home after dark, and I scoop the poop by flashlight. Flies are very interested in poop. Flies lay eggs in poop. Fly larvae hatch in just hours, and you have more flies.

When I can't be around during the day, I have friends that stop by to pick up poop. There's always a way.

What are the dimensions of the coop? How is it ventilated?

How many chickens do you have?

What type of manure management system do you use?

Photos?

Flies generally only become a significant problem when there are too many chickens in too small a space with too little bedding and too little ventilation to dry the poop out rapidly. If your manure management system dries the poop rapidly the fly eggs laid while it's fresh don't hatch and the flies never bother with the dry poop. :)

I clean my poop boards and coops probably once a month. Both coops have tons of ventilation. Zero issues with flies.
