KV - I am "under the radar" with my neighbors, my zoning allows for them BUT if any neighbor complained I would have to get rid of them. THAT'S why I am under the radar - what they don't know about they can't complain about. I put up with their noise, ATV's, dog's, crying children, etc. I figure it's fair that they tolerate me & mine.
I am in Murray, Utah (might as well be SLC) and a couple of blocks away people have ducks, geese, sheep, horses - all kinds of livestock (not ALL on the same property). In fact on my way to work everyday I love passing the new dental complex that is on a main street and RIGHT next door are horses. I think that's pretty cool.
The neighbors who actually border my property, know I have them (small lot and none of them are blind) and they have not said a thing. I am lucky in that I do have a cockerel but he is a bantam cochin and I have a hard time hearing him if I am in the house.
I am an eglu owner - and I have mixed feelings about them.
Pro's:
1.) I am not handy & this assembled easily.
2.) I can move it around so they can "weed" my next gardening spot.
3.) Good predator proof design. I think it looks like an Imac....cute.
Con's:
1.) Keeping it warm in the winter. Can not do deep litter method to keep coop portion warm & the design does not allow for hanging of lights for warmth.
2.) It does not move as easily as depicted on the web site I struggle with it (to be fair I am an old woman).
3.) For the money I would rather have a permanent structure and a LARGE run.
sorry for the long post.....
