Hi all,

In about two months our rainy season will start to kick in (I'm in Portland, Oregon). Unfortunately, that means months of cold rain, heavy winds, and possibly a few ice/snow storms.

Since I'm a planner, I'd like to know if anyone has suggestions for keeping our three Indian Runner Ducks comfortable. This will be their first rainy season, and I'm new to keeping ducks, so I'd rather start getting prepared while it's still warm and dry.

In any case, their duck house is rather large for just three ducks, and we're adding flashing to the roof to keep them as dry as possible. We also have a covered patio in the backyard they can go under during the day if they want to get out of the elements (they're free range).

Anything we're missing?

Sounds good to me! Ps. I don't live in Oregon so If I you're animals but beware freeranging if you have toads salamanders etc they do like to wander about and ducks will eat them w/out questioning if they're deadly :( but honestly my Perkins favorite season was our rainy one lol especially when the pond would overflow XD good luck whith the mud

Runners being upright and slim may feel the cold more so than their squatty cousins I have 5 Indian Runners and although they love the rain and mud in summer they were not a fan of the cold frigid temps over winter and spent a lot of time inside their coop just hanging out They would come out and mess around for a while but then back inside. I think if yours have options they will be fine. I keep the doors to all my coops open so anyone can feel free to go inside at any time. I think your Runners will learn what they like best. Oh and this will be mines 3rd winter and I do know they are not a big fan of snow [it slows them down] lol
