Any tips for less waste when feeding mash ?

I feed mush daily (for my scissor beak) in a large plastic (heavy) dog bowl. They were gifted to me after my stepfather's very large dog passed away for our dogs, but our dogs are much smaller. We use one inside the house for water, one outside on the deck for water in the summer, and the third got "donated" to be the mash feeder! I put in about half of a feed scoop (big square plastic thing) and top it with about 28 ounces of water (Big yellow cup from Dickey's) and the hens go nuts for it! I add fermented on top (and use that liquid when I do) and add things like yogurt when I think they could benefit from the probiotics (or I want to give them a treat). It is heavy enough that they haven't managed to tip it over yet and big enough that most of them can fit around it, they don't seem to be able to scratch it out though, as the sides are rather tall.

I use a long, narrow and deep planter. I glued the holes shut with food-safe silicone, and drilled a 6" carriage bolt through the middle of the bottom and through a wooden board the size of the bottom, underneath the planter (the board secures the bolt to the planter so that it doesn't spin around). I stuck the protruding end of the bolt into the ground. This keeps the planter from being knocked over. Because the planter is narrow and deep, they can't bill any food out, and it's tall and narrow enough that it's not convenient or comfortable for them to step on the edges or inside of it. I've been using this planter for about half a year now, and I have no spilled mash and no poop inside.
