I inherited 2 Bantam silkie hens this winter. Any tips for helping them survive the coming summer heat? I have lost 2 cochin hens in the past during the summer. The hens now live in a dog run located under a tree, with shade under their house, and a shade cloth covering half the enclosure. I have given my other hens (Barred rock & Easter eggers) ice water, cold vegetable/fruit scraps, and an occasion bath during the summer. There is no power or water supply to their area, so fans &/or misters are not an option.
