Any tips on electricity in the run? How many outlets etc?

Does your county, township, or city require you to have things inspected if you run permanent electricity to your coop. Do they add it to your property tax assement if it is hard wired? My township and county do and that's why mine will be powered by a heavy duty extension cord. Here as long as it is NOT hardwired- no inspections nor assements are needed. I would prefer to have mine hardwired, but I prefer to NOT have county snoops poking around my property even more ;o)

@ernndbrtt == That's why we waited with installing this AFTER the final house inspection. Our property is sufficiently shielded from view that I don't think any county snoop would ever find out. We had the builder bury the conduit across the driveway when they had it dug up for something else and then both ends were kind of hidden from view.

@dobieslady1 == Great idea, the automatic door hadn't occurred to me. I'm not planning one now, but who knows, perhaps

I having this done by a licensed electrician so I am assuming that he will know what he is doing re. amps and gfi outlets, but I will mention it to him. I think it's highly unlikely that I would ever run a heater and a fan at the same time, and I'd rather insulate the coop than heat it so I think 20 amps will be plenty.

So- if I read y'all correctly -- maybe 4 outlets inside and one near the popdoor to plug in a popdoor opener, one permanent lightfixture inside, that could eventually also hold a heatlamp, one light outside in the run, maybe two additional outlets in the run to plug in waterers in the winter.

Thanks all for your ideas. It's really exiting to start seeing this actually be realized, as I've been designing this thing it seems like for at least two years. All lumber for the run has been delivered today and my carpenter friend is coming over at 6 am on Saturday (to beat the 100 degree heat) to continue work on the run. I think between the two of us we should be able to get it close to finished. I will make sure I take pics and post progress here.

My DH wired our coops and we have the outlets on the storage side at normal heights but put the outlets inside the chickens area on the ceiling in one of the coops and at the top of the walls in the other one ~ well out of the reach of any chickens. We also have switched ceiling lights in both coop and a motion sensor light outside the coop that triggers when you walk towards the door for late night checks.
