any tips please

E.Coli is present in their digestive tract, but if they get some other problem, such as a virus, the E.Coli can go all over the body infecting different organs. She may not have E.Coli, but it is very hard to cure if it is a systemic infection. Did she have a Mareks vaccine? Some of her symptoms of problems walking sound a bit like that, but it may not be. She needs grit for anything other than chicken feed unless she goes out on the ground and eats tiny rocks.

thank you again. She has not had any vaccine. she was unstable for walking around to begin with because her other leg with her toes not really working for her ( she does -did get around no problem) I was thinking her good leg was sore, but she is really leaning backwards , she tries to get up then falls and gives up. I will give her grit right away if it isn't to late.

I am a first time chicken owner ,,,not sure what the mareks disease is... is it contagious to me and my family and my cat??? :( :( :( (

I was just reading about the mareks disease and it was showing pictures of eyes of if she would have it and a normal chicken, and her eye is normal?

i just read this.. and she may pull threw???? IF this is what it is???? No, mareks is not contagious to humans- it only affects chickens, turkeys and pheasants.

If a chicken has full-blown mareks, they will typically live for about 2 weeks - depending on how they are eating and if their crop is working. If they do not develop tumors, they may recover and live for many more years.

Staggering/stumbling can be a symptom of an inflamed nerve in the spinal cord (from a compression fracture caused by jumping off the roost and landing hard),

can I give her children's tempra? I do not have children's aspirin.

Do not give acetominophen to chickens. There is a great thread called "Not an emergency, Mareks in the flock" here on the emergency forum. Those who post have Mareks and can answer many questions. Also, keep in mind that Mareks comes in 4 different forms--somehave eye problems, others have paralysis, some have skin problems, and others have tumors.
