If so I have a question. I live in the country, but my road is traveled on allot.
I have not gotten any mail since Monday, we have had ice and snow.
I called the PO today and was told they didn't have to deliver in this weather. ??

I thought there as a federal law about how many days you could go without getting mail.

Now I will mention I have had trouble with this mailman. I have only reported him once, he wont deliver any packages, certified mail or anything like that. But he complained on my mailbox which was in code and I told his supervisor then. He was being timed the other day I saw. Not because of me, my complaint was months ago, so I guess other's are having issues with him.

But now I am off topic, so are the rules different for country mail versus city mail?

I don't work for the post office but I know someone who's a postmaster in another state. I'll email her and ask her for you.

Your not alone! I live in the middle of nowhere also, however my PO is awesome! BUT! Anytime I have anything package wise ( especially chicken items) it's like a freakin mail explosion when it hits st Louis... Everything seems to get screwed up there. I check the usps site foe my packages constantly. We've complained multiple times and we've even been "threatened" that non of our packages will show up

. REALLY?! Come on now people:mad:

We had unusual ice and snow here in Alabama a few weeks ago - our little valley was without mail delivery (or any traffic) for six days. We would have been snowed in longer, but the mail carrier asked the county to scrape the road, so we could get out.

I would never (unless I was getting important medication by mail) ask the carriers to risk themselves for me. I sell from home, and had several packages that were late shipping, but the mail carrier's safety is more important.

On the other hand - not delivering packages or certified mail? I would be on the phone to everyone in the post office every day, until that was resolved

No I wasn't wanting anyone to risk their lives, I was just curious. I really thought it was some sort of federal law and seriuosly my mailman is a very lazy man. My road was drivable. I have not recvd any mail for 6 days and I do get medical stuff in the mail that I go pick up but I didn't get the notices.

I just thought it was through rain, shine, sleet or snow

or however it goes.

I am about to put up a camera and start videoing him, because he is not suppose to bring ANY packages to my house, he has brought 2 boxes of eggs, one was hooked on top of my mailbaox wedged by the flag and the box. The other was in the mailbox.

My daughter got a package of Similac and it was in the road at the bottom of our mailbox. I took pics. His boss has told him never, ever to bring any packages to my house because I am pretty sure he has kicked a couple of my boxes of eggs. Just one dent, fresh egg white coming out of the egg and not dripping yet.

Very strange.

There were 2 days I wouldn't expect anybody to go out, but all the other's he should have made my house easy, or called me and I would have picked up my own mail.

My father was a letter carrier for 25 years. I tell you that, even though it doesn't color my opinion in the least.

We haven't had mail in a few days either. Personally I don't mind. Some bills and junk mail aren't worth our carrier risking her life for.

Just MHO.

Again Folks, we seem to get off topic. I dont want anybody to wreck their car or be injured.

And some people do get very important medicine and medical supplies, checks in the mail that they do need.

With that being said I was just curious if it was a federal law or not. So now I will just look it up myself.

Thanks for the responses.

Actually, I don't thinkt he "THru rain, snow, sleet...etc." is a federal law.......it's just a motto.

I stand corrected, it's not even themotto, it's an inscription at the NYC Post Office

This is their mission

The Postal Service shall have as its basic function the obligation to provide postal services to bind the
Nation together through the personal, educational, literary, and business correspondence of the
people. It shall provide prompt, reliable, and efficient services to patrons in all areas and shall render
postal services to all communities.

Yeah the rain, sleet, snow thing doesn't seem to apply anymore. We live in an are that is all 8 acre lots. about 30 in all. So we have an area where people put their mailboxes up on the side of the road. the other option is a PO Box. Our mail lady will not deliver if she can't get close enough to put mail in the box. So if we get more than a few inches she doesn't deliver because the plow gets as close as he can but still makes a stretch of snow that could be slippery and she could possibly fall.

So I just have them hold my mail on days that she doesn't deliver it and pick it up at the PO, instead of waiting for her. Then when the snow melts after a couple days I drop the hold request. Of course most of the rural PO's are closing. So our's is on the list. Will have to start waiting in line again.
