Any US Postal workers here?

If I was waiting on an important delivery, be it a check or medicines, whatever....

I'd pick it up at the post office myself.

We had carriers deliver during raging fires a couple of years. But, of course, they didn't deliver to the homes in the neighborhoods that were burning down. If they can't reach an area because it's too dangerous, then they probably won't deliver the mail during those times to those areas. But, they should still hold it if you call and ask and then you can pick it up.

ETA: I don't think it's federal law, but I think, though, they still have to get permission at the top to stop delivery out and out for those areas.

I was just curious if my mailman was being a stinker or not.

But on a side note......my Dad lives in W. Va in a land far, far away from me, and he gets EVERYTHING delivered to him. He is in his 80's and you wouldn't want him backing the car out of the driveway.
All his meds come in the mail, he orders his food online, he never leaves the house and is quite content.

Myself, I have had a bad year, defibrillator going off, it comes on quite suddenly, not very safe for me to drive, DH is out of town 7 to 14 days at a stretch and DD is only 14 she cant drive yet. So some people do depend on the mail service. I can survive a couple of days without mail. I was just curious IF there was a law or not. Trust me the PO is not that far from my house if I knew I could make it everyday I would have had a PO Box years ago.

I do live in Texas and they are NEVER prepared for any emergency, and all of our resources due to the weather were being consumed to make sure Jerry Jones had a good superbowl !!!!!

I am a rural mail carrier. I have worked for the post office for 12 and a half years and I have NEVER gotten a day off due to weather. I work in Georgia and we don't often get snow, but when we do I deliver the mail. I have gotten out of my car and waded in water up to my knees to deliver to a group of mail boxes. I have been down dirt roads and driveways that I would not have made it down if I didn't have 4 wheel drive... but I made it. It makes me so mad to hear about lazy mail carriers out there that are just collecting a pay check and postmasters that are not taking you complaints seriously. I am sorry on their behalf. We are not all like that. I deliver to just under 500 mailboxes per day. I know all of the people by name, I can tell you the names of their kids and their pets. Knowing the names of the pets comes in handy if you want to calm a dog down so he/she won't bite you and YES I have been bitten!

The USPS is putting a BIG push on customer service these days -- make sure you remind them of that if you need to call the PO about something.
