Protozoan diseases

What I'm reading indicates to me that the way medicated feed works is by giving a constant low dose of amprolium to prevent the cocci protozoa from metabolizing thiamin (vitamin B1).
I guess what I'm wondering is whether anyone knows if supplemental B1 in feed or water or vitamins is thus an unintentional thwarting of the drug in the feed meant to prevent cocci?
I can't tell if it is affected by the amount of B1 ingested, or if it just inhibits use of B1 in cocci in general, regardless of B1 available in the host system.
Any vet-types or biology-types out there who know? I don't want to trash the purposefulness of the preventative feed by giving my kids vitamins...
