I have a young pair of magpie call ducks that are lovely but probably not suitable for shows. There is very little information about this colouring and I was wondering has anyone had success breeding and showing this colour before.

Also wondering has anyone had success winning overall best duck in shows with rarer call duck colours like black, magpie, chocolate, butterscotch, etc. Any shows that I ever go to are always won by grays or whites, it'd be nice for a less common colour to win.

Hi.

Could you post pictures of your ducks?
People (experts) may then see if they really are "not suitable for shows" or not...
I don't have great pictures but here are some from when i got them. their feet have black spots, their bills are quiet long and i think the pattern on there feathers is not quiet the standard.

Your ducks are adorable! The reason you don’t see the rarer colors win at shows is because they’ve had less time to be developed. The “OG” colors like white and grey have been around forever! I have two magpies and one Ancona, they’re cute but def not show quality. Yours also are more pet quality, and you can of course start a breeding program to improve your stock. It’s sooo hard to find good quality stock though. I have one pair where they balance each other out nicely but their babies haven’t been what I expected. Not bad but not show quality. They need the small square beaks, short and cobby bodies and round apple heads. Hard to find. Most like ours are pet quality. Beaks way too long and big, bodies too slender and long, legs too long, heads too narrow and so on. I’m still going to try though, I love having ducks! Good luck with your babies!!
