Anybody actually have a rooster or two in a residential neighborhood?

My bantam rooster wasn't loud enough to wake us but loud enough for a neighbour to complain.

We had to rehome him.

As a neighbour of barking dogs, the owner may be able to block them out, but the person who chooses not to have a dog (or rooster in this case) will be able to hear it, every darn day.
I agree. It is the right thing to do to go tell your neighbors what you are planning and ask their permission. Some neighbors can be had for fresh eggs while others (especially those who work nights) will object and have that right. To keep the peace I would give them a heads up and hope that they never hear him.

How far are you from your nearest neighbor? We are a 1/2 mile from ours and you can only hear their donkey and our rooster when you go outside and mainly in the morning when it is still calm outside.
