Wow Montana, I never would have guessed, he writing just seemed so so non-montana-ish. His writing style is pretty good, but it seems a little too flowery and verbose, but I overlook it. It seems like he just consulted the thesaurus for every other word!

Smarty you'll definitely want to steer clear of Robert Jordan... and Anne Rice for that matter... but RJ goes so far beyond verbose... it works, and is worth the effort to plow through it... but darned sometimes I wish he'd just get to the good bits. CP's downright quiet compared to him.

I really like Eragon as something to keep me busy, but the only way it compares to Tolkien is in a sort of hero-worship way. In one light, I see it as sort of a nerdy (yes, I consider myself a nerd) Twilight: It got people who don't normally read to start enjoying books, and for that I'm eternally grateful. (you can tell I'm a librarian's daughter!)

I HATED the movie. Angela was my favorite character, next to Solembum, and they completely ruined her!

Also, someone mentioned that they won some sort of costume contest? I love Dragon*Con, etc, so if you could tell us about it (or, if you feel safe enough, even pictures of the costume) that would be really cool!

I agree with Smarty, Paolini does seem to use the thesaurus a lot in a near obsessive desire to not overuse words. I respect this, and while he's never, exactly, wrong with his word choices, he doesn't always seem to get it exactly right, either. I enjoyed the first two books and he's definitely an author I'll keep an eye.

I have to wonder if the people responsible for the film version read more than the jacket cover.

As for Jordan's WoT, he does get "wordy". If you cut out all of his descriptions of the dresses that the women are wearing you would probably reduce the text by a third, if not more. I sometimes wonder if he wasn't a closet cross-dresser. The last time I checked the fan sites, I thought that Sanderson's "Gathering Storm" (Jordan's planned finale) became to big and was divided. Hearing that the second half of that division is too big and needs to be divided, again... I'm no longer sure I have the energy to finish this series!

If you don't want to deal with long waits between new novels, do not start reading George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire".
