Anybody else have eggs set 6/14 due 7/5?

Good I am so glad things worked out after all the trouble. I looked in on Gerty and there are no chicks just two broken eggs at the front just under her belly???? I hope its pips and not her having a go at them???? They should be hatching - like anytime from now through Saterday???? I am hoping we will get at least one live chick?

I keep trying to get DH to turn his eggs but he forgets. I figured I would just let him go with this because nothing I tell him seems to actually go inside his head. Funny but if he reads it from a book or finds it on the internet its ok but if I tell him he ignors it???? Why are men like that????? So anyhow no matter how many times I told him he has to turn the eggs at least twice a day he forgets and then the temp is soooooo darn low the eggs are not even warm to touch at times but hay what do I know? I don;t think they will hatch but hes having fun "learning!" his own way. So I don;t think we will get any Light sussex x . But at least our hen seems to know what to do with the Leghorn eggs!

I am having a laugh at the moment watching DH try to hatch the sussex in the garage - he is very protective of "his" eggs but I think they are probably dead cause he can;t understand how important Temp and humidity are? After we hatched incubator eggs last year and had bother then you would think he would get it by now. I am waiting for them to explode!!!!

no harm done of course but he will learn eventually after he gets covered with yuky rotten eggs a few times!!!

Update on the hatch - checked this morning and sadly we have one dead chick.
I am not certain Gerty killed it as there are no injuries it was just dead on the ground and the egg sac looks to be massive not like other chicks we have hatched. Very odd??
There isn;t any sign of any others hatched out yet. We hope Gerty didn;t kill the baby - ?

Waiting for the others but we do know one egg got left to go cold so we are looking 4 max right now if things improve????? May not get any

Oesdog

No things are not at all good news now.
Another hatched today while we were out and Gerty killed it. - It was deffinately pecked to death hardly out of the shell.
We have lifted the other 4 eggs and they are in Dhs incubator type thing! He is makeing a better one as we speak! Gerty now has 2 rubber eggs and 2 light sussex eggs under her that are not due for a few more days so we can get the incubator up and running and take them off her before their hatch time comes.

Sad Gerty is a killer hen - they are not mice that is the problem!!!!!
I also have a bat I found in the fire this morning - cat went mad and I had to take the place appart to find it. So its in a dark place waiting for night to be released - all go here!!

I hope things go better for you! Hang in there!

We lost the power again yesterday, I dont know for how long, I wasnt home. I stopped at a neigbors house and found out as I was on my way home, so I only worried for about five minutes until I got home and checked my incubator, and found 8 perfect little chicks! All the eggs hatched despite the low temps! I will get some pics this afternoon!

I don't think anymore of Gertys babies will hatch as were at the end of 22 days and no sign yet. THough I will keep in mind a late hatch - but then they all went under her the same time and there is no reason for a late hatch from a broody not like incubator issues!

Oesdog - 8 chicks
