Anybody else sick of cars in general?(horses anybody!?)

Well get this, My hubby has a 97 Nissan Pick-up (the small ones). Well, the belt broke while he was on his way to town. he calls me and has me to call the Nissan place he got it from. They say towing was free, free to me is no charge. O.K. well we had it towed in and they called the house when it was was finished, the next day, but before telling me it was finished they said, " Mrs.____, we noticed that your brakes on the pickup need changing and your wipers are worn out and etc. etc.
I said, "Excuse me, but the truck only needed a belt yesterday". Well no explanation for that. Then when I went to pick it up the lady argued with me over the towing charge. I wanted to pitch a fit, but I held my cool. The owner of the car lot came to me and asked what was wrong and I told him. It done no good. He said they never tow for free. I told him that he needs to inform his employees of that.
I don't go there anymore. have nothing to do with them. I stay away.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!! I'm honestly thinking of going down south, buying a old f-100 truck body, and dropping a new motor in it. At least an old style engine I can work on myself. Is it getting spark, is it getting gas, does it have compression? That's it! Not what's bunch of hoses go to? What does that bundle of wires go to? When you open the hood to an old car, you can actually see the engine. Now under the hood there isn't a space big enough to fit your fist into in most new cars!

I must agree with SpeckledHen and Max!

Even my uncle who owns and runs a garage here in town said the same thing, harder to work into the engine without scrapping your knuckles and getting into TIGHT spaces. He loves to work on OLD cars and the room the older cars had were wonderful and mechinac (sp) friendly.

We just bought a newer Dodge Caravan and hubby doing maintance work on it was a B***** to work on, I could hear him cuss and getting cuts and scraps on knuckles and hard to get around to the other side to change spark plugs. If we had to do any major repairs, we have to take it to my uncle and have it fixed. Nope, we dont get freebies from him including the labor costs...its his business and we got a big extended family so he gotta pay the costs.

Yeah! I had a little Nissan pick up and when the computer went out on it, and they couldnt find a replacement, the truck was junk!!!! (older model and they didnt make the computers anymore)

I bought a 'Special Warranty' at the tune of $1700 on my used car (1999 Honda) about 5 years ago. Several things went wrong with it and NOTHING was covered

Yeah, those extended warranties are only good on things that aren't "normal wear and tear", good luck trying to prove that one, pretty much worthless they are.

We buy disposable cars! Yep, disposable. Anywhere from $500 to $3500 worth of car/4X4, and put liability on it. Pay cash, so no loans or interest. Invest in AAA for the towing, etc. If the repair bill for any one thing is more than $400-$500 dollars, we get rid of it and buy another.

The money we save on interest payments and full coverage insurance pays for a lot of minor repairs and maintenance. I learned years ago that warranties cover nothing of great expense and it hurts worse than anything to be making payments on a car that is always in the shop. Making payments and still having nothing to drive is the single most irritating feeling to me!

If you choose a good one and keep regular maintenance, you can save enough money towards your next disposable car, and then some!
Haven't made a car payment since 1995 and haven't had a major repair(besides brakes and rotars) since 1996.

I've been driving a 1998 MPV (is a van, so the insurance is cheaper)4x4 for two years now, having paid $3500 for it. The only thing I've had to repair are the brakes. I travel up to 130 miles per day as a hospice nurse.

It gets from point A to point B, just like a new one!

I wish I had a horse... I'd totally ride into town. It's 7 miles. I'm actually debating riding my bike with the little trailer we have. That'd save some gas for us and I could grocery shop with that... but couldn't take the kids. Maybe that's a bonus in disguise?
