My buff rocks are very quiet, timid and after 23 weeks, still not laying. Is this normal for this breed? They are also HUGE. Noticeably bigger than my barred rocks and black australorps. They are all the same age and the buff rocks are a lot bigger and the only ones not laying. I got them from McMurray.

Thanks.

They are supposed to be "somewhat early maturing." Maybe you just have some late bloomers, although 23 weeks isn't that late at all.

It actually sounds like you are describing Buff Orpingtons: huge, quiet, timid. I wonder if that is what they sent you. Buff rocks are an unusual breed.

These hatcheries periodically breed their birds with other breeds for various reasons, to get various characteristics. My McMurray Australorps have patches of brown here and there, for example, and Australorps should have no brown, so this is no doubt a reflection of that.
