Anybody have dreadlocks?

I did the backcombing. It took longer, but they looked neater. The crochet hook is for loose loops, to pull them back in and tighten the dread up.

Yep, She fixed them with it. I had tried dreads once, but my hair just refused to do it. LOL My friend still has hers, it's been 20 years at least.

Know nothing about dreads - but my hairdresser told me to STOP putting my conditioner on in the shower. What I do (long, very, very fine hair) after the shower, towel dry hair and then apply my conditioner (yes it is a shower conditioner that says rinse out - Nexxus). I let the conditioner dry in my hair - you cannot tell it is there after dry (I freaked when she told me to do this - my hair will get dirty

). Works great.

How do you get the ends rounded? I'm finding conflicting info on some of the sites- some say keep some hair sticking out at the end, and others say tuck & twist.

My hair is pretty curly/kinky so it should take fairly easily. I've been told it takes a long time until they look good- but if I can grow out a whole head of haircolor, I can deal with the wait. Not like I have anybody to impress in the middle of the woods anyway!

Ah- I love Nexxus!. We've been using sulfate-free stuff because we have grey-water recycling- but I bet one of those good brands has an all-natural formula.

I would take the ends and rub them in my palm in circles, then rubber band them kind of folded up. The ends take the longest in my experience. For most of them I just waited until the locks were pretty solid then cut the ends short. If you do that you want to make sure you are well knotted, otherwise when you cut them the whole thing could unravel.

I've collected enough info, for a small report, I hope all goes well.
HappyMtn- Hope you find answers to your qeustions.

I have natural dreadlocks every morning when I wake up. My hair is down to my butt, and it takes forever to get all the kinks out. Guess that's not the same though...

HappyMtn, next time you're down this way, come talk to my Haflinger. She is expert at creating massive dreds in her mane, seemingly overnight.
