So I got my first three chicks. One of them is supposed to be an Ideal 236 Leghorn hybrid.

She's the smallest of the bunch - and someone pointed out that she has feathered legs, and suggested she might be a cochin.

If the feed store gave me a cochin after I'd special ordered my birds, I shall be vastly annoyed. Cochin, I read, are very low production, whereas the 236 is supposed to be very high production. My town will only let me keep 3 hens.

Does anybody know if an Ideal 236 chick might have feathered legs?

Just took some

Did you ever figure out what she was? She’s adorable! :love

He was a bantam cochin cockerel. A very sweet boy. We suspected boy for a while, then he started crowing. We are not allowed roosters here. Found him a home with a family east of Dallas that was raising goats and chickens, mostly bantams.

His first act on arriving was to pop out into the face of the head hen and say HI. Later that evening she sent me pics of him riding a goat (she said her chickens like to do that) and then roosting for the night with some of the others. I expect he's had a good life there.

Awww sounds like he found a good life indeed!! I’m sorry you couldn’t keep him but seems like he lucked out in landing a great home ❤️❤️ He’s very handsome!! I have a bantam Cochin cockerel too and I love him very much but he’s sooooo loud. 😭😭 we’re allowed to have roosters and whatever else we want here thankfully but I’m worried they will complain because he starts so early and throughout the day 😂🙈

Personally, I have a bantam Cochin and she usually lay 4-6 days a week when she's actively laying
