It is rare for quail to go broody. Button quail are pretty good at it, but Coturnix...RARE....bobwhites can go through it as well.

cute little quail and her babies are very pretty.
yea i thought it was rare to, thats why i was wondering if anyone had any pictures. lol.

As soon as I can figure out which eggs are hers and the weather gets better, I will be hatching out some little Lucy Lu chicks. If she wont do it herself, I have a new thermostat on the way for my incubator.

Question...If coturnix quail rarely go broody, how did the wild ones produce offspring for the next generation?? DID they naturally brood in the wild?

Yes They Do Brood In The Wild. Also Most Of The Rare Sucessful Broodies In Captivity Are In Very Natural Setting Type Aviaries, Some As The 2 Posted Here Will Do It In Standard Cages, But Usually Best Chance (which Is Slim) Is In A Natural Type Of Environment

Coturnix quail have been domesticated for a very long time. Same with ducks like runners. Wild quail have no problem breeding in the wild. Same with mallards, which are the wild DNA pool runners came from.

But over years and years of breeding, most have lost that instinct to set on eggs.

I started googling broody quail because I've noticed some of the eggs were being "piled" up in a corner and covered in shavings. I think I'll put some cover in there and see if anyone is being particularly interested in the eggs...

mine are coturnix

Not imposable. Just highly unlikely. Ask anyone that has hatched out 20-2000 coturnix in the last 21 days and they will tell you....Incubator #1...Broody coturnix hen...ZERO.

This isn't helping anyone folks!

I don't care how many pics of "BROODY" coturnix you post here...It don't beat an incubator!

I have no delusions of grandeur, and anyone serious about raising coturnix needs at least a marginal incubator, and rudimentary brooding skills.

There is a 98.765% probability that your coturnix hen will NEVER be Broody!!!!!!

PLEASE STOP GIVING PEOPLE FALSE HOPES!

I'm really tired of seeing 3+ year old contrived pics of broody coturnix hens, but that's just me.
