Anybody setting today (3-25) or tomorrow (3-26)??

She is beautiful! I hope they hatch for you, then Winnie will really be the hero of the day. How amazing that she stepped in to take over for her flock mate. I can't wait to hear what happens!!

Thank you! She is beautiful, and a wonderful broody. But, unfortunately, not good enough to save Daisy's poorly cared for clutch. I candled again and most of them didn't make it past a week or two.

So I took them away and am saving up eggs to give her in a couple of days.

Wooo Hooo

the one in my incubator has hatched, i woke up to go pee at 3:30am and heard a lot of loud chirping, when I checked it out we had a little chicky. The boody in the coop still has no peeps yet and I am worried about her cause this is day 22 now

I hope they hatch for her but if they dont I guess I could slip this one and a few Blrw's Im getting from a friend tomorrow. I really want her to hatch some of her own though. how long should I leave the little guy in the incubator? I have a brooder set up and I was thinking about putting it in there today, is that okay?

When did he hatch, exactly? He can live in the incubator (without food or water) for up to 2 days... But I usually just take chicks out once a day (however many there are, as long as they are fluffy).

He hatched at around 3-3:30 he is in the brooder now all fluffy and cute. My broody is still sitting on 10 and none have piped we are almost at the end of day 22 now. How long should I wait befor I take her eggs from her? day 24 maybe? I hope she hatches at least on she has been sitting there for almost a month now.

Six of Sophie's seven eggs hatched, so now she has a family. She is turning out to be an excellent momma (this was her first hatch). She's very patient with me when I want to peek at the chicks, and she's already taken them out into their little yard to walk in the grass. She's shown them where the food and water is, and she calls them to follow her when it's time to go back into the mini-coop. It's adorable to watch. :)

Interestingly, I candled all the eggs on day 20 and the air cells were HUGE. Some of them looked like they took up nearly 50% of the egg. It's been super dry around here all spring, so it's not a huge surprise. I was really worried about the hatch because of this, but the six that hatched are perfectly healthy looking! The one that was a late quitter looks like an egg from one particular hen whose eggs have been late quitters 3 times out of 4 when I try to incubate them myself, as well. So I'd say Sophie did pretty well!

First and foremost: AN EGG IS PIPPING! AN EGG IS PIPPING! WOOOOOOO! I have to charge the camera!

Kevlar, to answer your question: Yes, if he is fluffy you can take him out. And I was told to let them sit until day 25, and start her on new eggs if nothing hatches. Is this her first hatch? It is not uncommon for hens to not do so well with their first try...

DraigAthar, Congrats!!

my broody has 2or 3 more days til hatchday . other hens have been laying in her nest daily booting her out daily. well this morning i checked underneath her and grabbed the 2 eggs the other hens layed today and noticed one of the marked eggs for hatching was part crushed in on one end so i figured it was no good so i opened to see if it was fertile and there was a chick devolping inside it was all wrapped up and it was alive for a few minutes i guess i killed it thinking it wouldnt hatch being crushed. so i guess i should have let it be .

my broody hatched 2 chicks so far today. went down and checked on her at 10am and 2 have hatched. 3 more to go hope they hatch.

24 hours without anymore eggs hatching, am I finished? 4 egged left 30 chicks in the brooder.

I may put another batch in the incubator Friday or Saturday.

Wow... That is a REALLY good hatch rate! I can only hope that mine do that well! My first chicky has pipped and has started a zip! I keep checking the incubator to see if I missed anything!!
