Anybody use Gabbard Farms? Orp or Ameraucana pics?

I ordered Australorps from her. Nothing special, just testing out my bator at the time and liked Australorps. The order got lost in shipping somewhere. Po showed she brought it in and it was shipped out...then disappeared. She sent me 2 dozen absolutely free. I only bought 1 dozen. She was super appalogetic and sent out the new order the very next day.

I had great hatch rate from them. Quality is just pet quality. Nothing to rave about, but I was happy with her customer service and super quick response.

Its always buyer beware. In my case it wasn't expensive at all so if I got burned I wouldn't have been mad.

Julie has been quite pleasant the 2-3 times I've purchased their eggs. We hatched 2 Marans- blue & a splash--from their eggs last year and am trying SLW & Ameracaunas shortly. Shipped eggs are a gamble, no way around it

if local breeders do not have the stock.

I don't know if the problem was with my technique or the eggs, but all 24 of the eggs that I ordered from Gabbard Farms failed to hatch. I think I did everything right, and I even waited until day 25 before I finally broke them open to see if anything had developed. Every one of the eggs was just liquid yolk-like stuff. They didn't smell or anything, but there wasn't any sign of development at all in any of them. I was really disappointed. I haven't called them to see if they give any kind of refund or replace any of the eggs because there isn't any mention of such a policy on the website. I purchased 12 blue Orpingtons, 6 blue Aracaunas, and 6 Wellsummers, so on top of the failed hatch being disappointing (especially for my kids), it was very expensive. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Sounds like the PO x-rayed them somewhere along the way and killed the fertile embryos. I'd contact Julie. She'll may work with you though it isn't her fault or yours. She's generally pretty good about customer service. It's worth a shot anyway. X-ray will kill ALL of them and I highly doubt she had that many infertile eggs and that's what it sounds like to me. Sorry about your hatch!

I agree... That sounds like something happened along the way. A few clear eggs is one thing but all of them is another...

I also ordered eggs from Gabbard farms. I received the eggs promptly; they were packaged well, with none broken. I ordered and paid for 18 got 19. BUT the eggs were not uniform ,at all, as to size and color. I emailed them instantly and suggested that maybe they had mixed some different breeds in my order. I got the " I'm sure we didn't make a mistake and you just don't know about chicken eggs" response....Wrong answer...I emailed back to say I did have this particular breed and if my hens had laid any of these odd looking eggs I would have thrown them agaist the barn and had chicken soup for weeks and added that I would be mildly shocked if any of them hatched...I got the reply " we stand by our quality,we work directly with the APA,I'm sure if you incubate them right they will all hatch...unless the post office mis handled them" response...She did offer a refund; that I refused, in principle....I set the eggs and after the first candling have changed my mind....Now I would be Absolutely and Completely Shocked if any of them hatch...This cannot be blamed on the post office. These eggs looked like their reject eggs based on the wide variety of colors and sizes...I doubted most would hatch when I set them...just an fyi...I am running a Leahy 624 and hatch at a rate above 90% with over 300 chicks hatched already this spring....My take: Quantity over Quality....And that was a rather expensive lesson...

My take: Quantity over Quality....

I agree wholeheartedly. I wish people on ebay would base their feed back for them on what quality of birds they're getting from their eggs rather than if they arrived in one piece.

I had this happen, let her know, and she sent me out a replacement set. Out of 24, I got 16 developments, 12 pips, 11 hatches, 9 healthy little chicks. Which, unfortunately, is about what I expect from shipped eggs. I was a little sad the blue hamburgs, blue andalusians, blue copper marans, and blue orpingtons in the variety pack all didn't hatch. I am cursed to never own a blue chicken.
