Anyone’s Fall chicks this year start laying yet - Updated

Mine are. I got 10 new chicks Sept 3rd or 4th and their first eggs started Jan 9th, so I think that's roughly 16 or 17 weeks. (Still working on my first cup of coffee this morning so I can't count yet :caf)

As of yesterday I know at least 8 of them are laying, maybe 9. One or two have smaller wattles and appear less mature than the rest so that would makes sense.
Beautiful GLWs! I've had a few GLW and SLW before and love me some laced feathers.
Mine hatched September 9th. Still no eggs lol! That’s awesome you have so many of yours laying. Do you use lights?

3 of 6 of mine are laying. One gold sex link that started at 20 weeks, one EE at 23, another mystery layer at 24 which I suspect is a buff brama. Waiting on another brama and EE. The barred rock ended up being a roo so I’ll most likely be buying more chicks in the next month. Good luck, hope you get an egg soon!!
One of mine has been doing the squat for a week now. Still no egg. Mine are still young yet. 21 1/2 weeks now. The anticipation is the worst lol!!!

No, no lights. I live in VA now but didn't use lights when I lived further north either. Usually my heritage breeds started around 20 to 25 weeks up there but down here it's been a little different.

When I moved the farm here I brought my older flock with me and found that they went into molt a little later in the fall and started back laying earlier in the spring even though the actual yearly daylight lengths hadn't changed all that much. Of course the summers here are hotter so I would get less eggs during really hot spells. It kinda all seems to balance out for yearly totals.

After being here a while I ordered some Americaunas one spring, about end of March I think....expecting they would start laying by later fall, like normal. However they didn't actually start until Feb of the following year!! 😮 All bright blue egg layers but boy...it sure took a while. I've never had a group or breed of chick to take soooooo long to start laying but hoped it was unique to this batch of chicks. Thankfully it seemed to be as subsequent pullets have started more within normal time frames. This last batch is Sapphire Gems and across the threads here people say they consistently start between 15 to 18-ish weeks, and they have. Little bitty ones like usual but they are reaching near full size quickly. I like to call the little ones cadbury eggs. :gig

My seramas have! They hatched September 22, 2019 and have been laying an egg every other day - sometimes daily- for two weeks. I will be integrating a “boyfriend” in the next few months :) of course, the littles are a little different than LF. Good luck. That’s an exciting time!

The last of my 3 late summer/fall chicks finally laid today! Sally, a fluffy yellow EE, 27 weeks old. Her egg is so cute and round! Now I'm just waiting on the last one of my older hens to start back up again and the whole flock will be laying!

Congratulations! Yes, mine are all heritage breeds, so I think it will take just a wee bit longer. Temperature is not the issue at all down here. It has been in the 70s lately.

How absolutely beautiful! Your pullet is gorgeous also. We are still sad our only Easter egger sexed pullet turned into a lad.
Congratulations!

How awesome! How awesome to be able to hatch chicks later too!

It Happened!!!:celebrate22 1/2 weeks! I think it was our silver laced Wyandotte, Who I said weeks ago was going to be the last to lay an egg. She proved me wrong. So incredibly excited!!!!
Now, how do I get her to lay in nest box???? I just changed one of the straw mats to shavings. Maybe that will work.

Of course, I had to crawl to that back corner to retrieve it!!! We have an elevated coop. Then, while I was at the house getting the ladder to climb in coop l, all the ladies were gathered around the egg pecking it:he:lau.
