Anyone actually MOVE their Tractor very often?

slofr8, you live in a beautiful place!!

Unfortunately, nice as your tractor and tractor are, I won't be able to use any of YOUR design ideas. My yard wouldn't hold either one of your tractors, let alone both of them!

I move mine daily. I've only got six hens, but they really tear up the grass. It is built out of a 4' x 12' dog run. I have wheels on it so it is not too much trouble to move.

This has been really intresting, was wondering about tractor designs but now will have to do a masive rethink

HAHA - been there....done that. Sad thing is that it's not just one poo patty. Too often it's also cow manure, pine chips, etc....
I think they've figured me out.

Anyway...i've solved that problem....but back to the topic. I've not done a chicken tractor, but do use the deep litter method and pretty much LOVE it. I collect the litter every so often and till it into the garden or put it in our composter. Maybe i'll try the tractor someday, but would recommend putting some wheels on it. If you run a bolt through the right spot, you can pivot the wheels up into place and just push it away. Just a thought.

I take my chickens out daily from the coop/pen, when I come home from work around 3, and put them in a 6X8 dog kennel. I move it myself I just move each side until it is where I want it. It goes a lot quicker if I have help, we just pick up and move. I move it enough to get it to a new patch of grass. I usually move it every day or two. I keep it covered with a tarp to keep them in. They stay in it for about 2 hours and then I put them back in the coop.

Ubumartin, and those of you who move their chickens from a fixed run to a tractor--how do you get them from one place to another? Do you herd them into the tractor? Do you have a mini-coop that you can move them in? Do you have a "chunnel" (chicken tunnel). I am very curious about this as I would like to build a large day-tractor for mine. When they were small, I could move them in a crate, but I can't imagine picking up all six hens now.

I'm also from Washington. I was considering one of the A-Frames but decided we get too much rain.

Retired guy down the road builds great dog houses on heavyduty pallets. Bought one, added more ventilation, and built the run portion out of pressure treated lumber covered with hardware cloth.

I move both pieces seperately every morning in summer and every 2-3 days in the wet weather 8' which is the length of the run portion.

I have 3 banties in mine in the front yard. If I could figure out how to get wheels on it, I would as it is harder to move with the wet weather.

I added a wood top to the open hardware cloth top when the rain hit to keep the run dryer.

Love that the top lifts up on piano hinge so I can grab the eggs that get layed.

Metal rod I attached to the sliding door so I can close it up at night without moving the run.
