Anyone built a Catawba Ark?

Quote:
That is cute. I like the window. It looks like you had a great time building it.

How wide and long is it? I think ours is about 4 feet by 7.5. We are still in the process of building it. I am going to put 7 EE chickens in it. Right now, they are 2 weeks old. I was wondering if it was going to be too crowded, or if it would work with that number?

If I did not paint them they can be built in a day fairly easy. there are two doors one on the outside and the back folds down to the ground leaving the back complelty open. they are very easy to work in. We have used them to grow out bird and for breeding groups we had 4 std cornish for breeding groups and we have has as many as a dozen btms in there. we had built a potralbe roost that we could slide in and out of the back.

Sorry for the late reply

here are a few more pics, to help get a better Idea I do not have a roost in this one but i do have a btm nest box in it. these are are bantam white australorps just for size comparison.

hope this helps

Thanks spangledcornish-I am leaning towards something like that now. It looks so much easier to access than the catawba. Plus much more straightforward to build. Do you move this around like a tractor or just clean out the run as needed? Just need to consult w/ hubby!

Wow, it seems to be the best design I've seen so far out of sevral dozens. Can you please put more pictures of the insides? How is it ventilated?

I am going to build an ark for my son, who is 9 and hatching 4 eggs! We are hoping that they hatch and that at least 2 survive. (We have never hatched eggs before!) I have a raised coop with an attached run for 4 hens and we figured an ark would be perfect for him to take care of himself! I like the design where the coop part is the top half and the chickens come down to the run. I think maybe, for two hens, only the top half may be needed. I have designed a coop that has round doorways, which will look like a Hobbit house, since my son is obsessed with Lord Of The Rings! (A friend has promised to paint Mount Doom on the opposite end!) These postings have offered me many ideas to perfect my design! Thanks everyone!!! The Ark design is one of my favourites!

I know this is a really old post, probably no reply, but nevertheless, @homeschoolmama did you ever build @spangledcornish coop? I was thinking of building it and posting it up 24" or so. There would be more run space for a permanent coop for 4 standard hens. Then using welding wire and wood instead of chicken wire and siding. Has anyone built this coop? It seems like a nice base. I found it here: http://richland.uwex.edu/files/2010/11/A3908-02.pdf
