I finally convinced my Mom to agree to chickens. Daddy has been wanting them a long time. They have a wooden swingset that my kids and nieces don't use any more. We thought to use the structure as the basis for a chicken coop. We do not want to maintain the A-frame shape, just use it to built on to. The set looks like the one pictured at this site http://www.swing-n-slide.com/swingsets_pioneer.htm We would like to add uprights at each corner and in between to make it a rectangular building. We plan to scavenge some of the tin from the old barn for the roof. We live in south Texas and it gets very hot and humid here. I think the footprint of the swingset (minus the slide) is about 16 feet long, 7.5 deep, and 8 feet tall. Ideally I would like to have a double decker affair with run space underneath. Momma needs to be able to clean it with out a lot of bending. The birds would be allowed to free range during the day and come back to the coop at night. Do you think it is realistic to think of getting an order of 25 birds in there if they are only going to be there during the night? Any ideas on how I can pull this coop conversion off?
