Rollyard or City chicker Where are you??? These guys may be able to give you some information on genetics-
Currently I have some mixed colour eggs in the bator- Just the first eggs laid by my young flock- and since I am not set up for breeding larger numbers yet- I havent sepperated them into colour groups.

I've got a black drake & a fawn/white drake; hens are fawn/white, blue, black, and some mixed offspring from earlier crosses. Mostly the crossed colors have been fairly bland, although I like them anyway. Fawn/white crossed with blue or black seems to produce a "faux blue" with a brown tint. I'm calling it "Lavender Fudge," lol.

I don't know what crosses with gray or chocolate will produce. Gray is the natural genetic material for a duck, so any mix with Gray will essentially carry one "mutant" color gene from the colored parent, and one "natural" color gene from the Gray. Don't know how that will actually look in a bird, but I thought you might be interested.

Holderread's book, Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks, has an outstanding section on understanding duck color that would give you lots of material to pour over for hours to figure out what your babies will look like.

Have fun...

I have some eggs in the incubator now. I have a blue male, a buff female, a black female, and three fawn and white females. I think he is selective because only 8 out of twenty eggs were fertile. It will be interesting when those 8 eggs hatch to see what I have.

Tia--Earlier in the season my fertility was really low. I think yours will probably improve as the season progresses--you're MUCH farther north than I am.

Also, blue x fawn/white and black x fawn/white tends, for me, to produce a blue-like color with a brown tint--I guess I already mentioned that--I call it "Blue Fudge"

Can't wait to hear what colors yours turn out!

thanks for the information everyone. im really curious myself, ive sold a dozen eggs that are being incubated now. so maybe

she WILL call me and let me know the turnout! but my incubator hasnt exactly been a great success even though everything seemed to be perfect. so i dont want to hatch them out myself right now till i get a better incubator... but im quite interested in that book iamcuriousitycat.
