Anyone doing a later year hatch that wants to share stories, experiences and pics?

Hi, I'm on day 2 with 6 EEs and 3 Welsummers under my best broody, and 10 light Brahma and 3 Welsummers in the incubator. I just hatched 13 polish and 1 partridge Brahma last week, and my other broody hatched 6 Cuckoo Marans 2 weeks ago. Why so many chicks? I don't know. I sell them when they are older, so I get the best. Earlier this year I sold 18 3 to 4 month old chicks in one week.

I will candle Tuesday as well and update. Have you thought about electric fencing? I have some that I'm going to set up when I move the chicks outside, and turn it on at night. I have a coop and run setup for them, and will put it inside a fenced area and surround the coop with the electric fence. The chicks won't be able to get near it, and predators will be zapped! I also have 2 mastiffs that keep watch at night. They have a dog door and I hear them run out quite a bit at night. I also have wire buried and spread out on the coop.

Good luck with your hatch! I'm excited to see how you do. I'm sorry for your hen, and glad she's ok.

Hopefully i'll get one under way next month, getting some ISA Brown x Silkie eggs off my dad which should make for some interesting chicks. Now all I need to do is to see if I can make this cheap Chinese incubator to run quieter and tell my wife I've bought it...

I am sorry to hear about your losses 8 Chicks & Flamens Farm. I hope things go more smoothly for your hatches.
I have eggs being delivered this week, Wednesday or Thursday, probably.
It has been about 5 years since I have had chickens. I am looking forward to it.
Good luck..some loss will come. lets just keep it to a minimum. They are a lot of joy.
