Hi! Newby here !

i have one egg in the incubator and is the end of day 20.

I candled it to see if it was still moving.
I saw movement but saw some movement along the edge of the air cell area .

Can they poke through the membrane then suffocate if they don't get through the shell?
I've heard of people poking a hole..
Any thoughts?

Maybe he is just a late bloomer?

Thanks!!

Hi, sorry wish i know more about things like this. I'm kinda new to Incubating, and hatching eggs also. I let my hens worry about hatching, would help if i could. Best of luck.

Thanks

Anyone else??

If it is only day 20, I wouldn't assist until day 23. It is still early. Not due until tomorrow. They can take 24 hours from internal to external pip.and the same from external pip to zip. Time to sit on your hands. Humidity 65-75% is plenty. Good luck.

So they don't suffocate? That is my only concern.
I just have this super rare heritage bird. Only one. And I want it to be oh so OK!

I had a turkey suffocate, but that was because it had pipped at the pointy end and into the floor of the incubator that was covered in shelf liner. A small amount of fluid stuck the pip hole to the liner. I would seriously not worry until day 23.

Ok thank you!!

While talking about all this, my daughter rushed out and said she heard a crack!
It finally pipped!

It pipped towards the bottom. I'm excited to see if we have a baby in the morning

I will.

He hasn't made any progress. It's been over 14 hours.

He poked then stopped and havent seen him.
I hear him chirping though.

He also didn't crack in the air cell. He cracked right in the middle of the egg.. Is that normal?
