anyone due on feb. 8th-13th??

If you've already lost 5 seems possible there's an infection & you might need antibiotics, but I'm out of my league on that...

Did you post to the Emergencies section?

congrats everyone who go chickies!!!!!!

Just wanted to let you know, I think I read on here not to use shaving at first until they know the difference between the shavings and their food. Maybe they are eating the shavings. Just an idea.

The final results from 12 standard salmon Faverolles eggs from eggbid.com

16 came overnight FedEx
8 ea. placed beneath cochin bantam broody hens
2 eggs found cold one morning (but placed them back under hen anyway)
3 eggs discarded on day 13 (no development)
1 chick seemed premature and small, but is fine
1 chick got stuck to hen's breast feathers, nearly strangled, and was pecked in the back, but recovered fine
11 chicks hatched (approx. 7 needed assistance due to low humidity or something)
2 remaining eggs in nest after day 23 opened to find one dead --through membrane though not pipped--and another still alive, but when given to hen she tried to eat it, it died

So out of 12 eggs purchased, 16 eggs delivered, 11 hatched.

Not bad for my first time? I don't think I could have done so well without my sweet broody hens Anya and Berlin.

I will post photos soon.

From the posts I have read in this forum, that sounds like really good results from shipped eggs! Congrats!
We are almost neighbors....I live in the Coeur d'Alene area.
Continued luck to you and your hatch,
Carolyn

all my babys are doing great, i got the temp under controll, that was the promblem. And with the shaving getting wet it was worse on there feet. but we fixed a little bigger box, they look comfortable now.

OK. The chicks are three days old now and posed for photos in a mini studio I made for them. First, here is four Faverolles chicks cared for by my black birchen cochin hen Berlin. Two of these chicks were born with four toes instead of Faverolles five.
