I never did see mine moving. Mine looked exactly like yours. That is probably the yolk with the chick behind it. The chicks at that stage are only about as large as a dime in a large size egg.

could they possibly be dead then? how old where your chicks when you thought they had died?? thanks

No, they're not dead. Just keep going, you will be fine. Mine were all alive when they looked like that. Mine only died because my temp went to 115 degrees.
They were all developing along just fine.

with BBS Cochins and Welsummers! (plus I snuck one of my own Amerucana x Something eggs in there.)

My DS is helping with this hatch since the Cochins are his 13th birthday present. It is only my second hatch so the nail biting has begun.

That sounds like a good hatch. Don't do anything with the "empty" ones yet, they may change.
My gosh, how did you candle 52 eggs? Did it take an hour?
My temp was a bit erratic yesterday which always makes me crazy and I start fiddling with the thermostat which I shouldn't do. Today I am going to really try not to have to touch it.
I candled a couple last night but I am only at five days and the two I looked at had chicks. Now I will wait until tomorrow to do it again.
I only have six that will be one week, then the next day a bunch of banty eggs are at one week and then on the next day the rest are one week.
