I love to watch belly dancing. A good friend teaches, and I"ve taken lessons--it's REALLY hard work! If I had more time I'd take lessons regularly. I still have my hip scarf, though.
One great thing about it is that people of all sizes participate. It's not a style just for skinny folks!

Exactly...I am by no means a "petite" other than height and I get so encouraged seeing women larger than me dancing and smiling!!! It's very empowering!

Dang! I've always been interested in Bellydancing, and I didn't know all kinds of women danced to it!Does it help to do Yoga or Pilates with it?

I was thinking of starting up some kind of excersize workout, now I can dance my way to thinness!

The dvd I have is "Contemporary Belly Dance and Yoga conditioning with Ariellah"

She combines yoga workouts with belly dance techniques and choreography.

It's AWESOME!!!!!!!

I am starting my first hip-hop dance class later this month. Not sure if I have the nerve for belly dancing. I love watching it....so for now, I will start slow.

I used to have a friend that took up bellydance. She almost shook her uterus out. Literally.

Funny thing is that in its native countrys heavy set women are Prefered for dancing than skinny girls like we have here in the US. I am a memeber of tribe which I have not vistied in a year. It is bellydance community place. All types are there with forum and groups.

Bellydancing is one of the best natural and esy ways to limber and tone your body. Forget Hollywood bellydancing for most costumes are much more covered now that that. Some wear full dresses now. In the native lands many countires damand that the belly be covered at least with chiffon or gauze and not be naked.

Doing the upper body exersize while on the computer is a great way to get them done as you lower body does not move.
