Anyone else buy their chicks before they had a coop?

*gasp* you can't do that because you wont know how big to build the coop because you don't know how many chicks you are going to collect

Hahaha... We were actually going to buy the chicks after the coop was built! Hubby couldn't wait and got them last week ago. It looks like they will be in the house for a while.

We did it last year with my first chickens. My husband had to hurry up and get the coop built before they were too big to be in the box. I have more chicks coming next week and we haven't even started the addition for them.

Lol, I bought my first chicks last fall. They are out in their coop, but it got to cold to finish their run. Now it is too muddy. Poor girls, hopefully it'll be nice enough soon to give them more leg room. Their coop is an old shed. We managed to get it mostly done, but it still needs work too.

Confession: This whole chicken venture was merely a ploy to get a new roof put on our the big shed ASAP (coop is planned for one end).

The good news: New roof is framed in, OSB on, blue tarps flapping, waiting for clear weather.

Bad news: Chicks now 5 weeks in house. (Actually, I

my chickens but did not expect to.)

Yes X 2. The RIR"S were first and then the Silkies needed a home of their own. More babies coming this weekend, hopefully they will be happy living in one of the two coops.

We got 8 chicks at the beginning of March and 2 ducks in the middle of March. Still no coop... I'm hopeful that we will have it by the end of next week. The chicks and ducks are quickly running out of room in the brooder in the basement

I'm starting to think of alternate plans in case the coop isn't ready by next week.

Our chicks are due in a week or so and our coop is about halfway built! The house is done, but so far all we have are a couple of poles in the ground for the run. And I am trying SO hard to not stop by the local feed store and pick up some of those cute babies today!! I agree that it's good motivation for the hubs (and me!) to finish up the coop!

Yep. Last year. I did not know they grew sooo fast!

This year we have a "teen Brooder" that they went into at 3 weeks. Still too cold here to put them outside. Plus we need to make an attention to our coop!

So OK I guess we did it twice now! All worked out fine. They appreciate it more when they have to wait!
