I have an easter egger who only lays brown eggs. It was a bummer, but I got over it. I guess her paint department is confused.

EE'ers are cross bred birds, meaning almost anything goes. There is no defined standard that I know of for them, so they can be bred by anyone - from anything.
There is only is one trait it must have: the colored egg gene.

But beyond that, who knows what lies within the genetic soup that is it's bloodline?

I had a cross once, that was NOT an Aracauna, but laid a blue egg.
This was because an Aracauna male was let into the breed line at some point in the past. Otherwise, it looked like any other chicken.

Hey, be happy she lays - that is always a good thing!

EEs are one of the worst frauds ever perpetrated on the populace of North America.

Im sure she was sold as an Araucana/Ameraucana and then you find out she is an EE, but thats fine, cause she still lays blue eggs right? WRONG!!!!! Im suprised these hatcheries havent figured out how to breed a bird with sawdust in its eggs. If they can they will and they will market it as an Araucana.

At My Pet Chicken this is what they say in the breed profile:

Please note: This variety of chicken can lay blue, green, pink, white or brown eggs (or any color in between). There is no guarantee as to what color egg your hen will give. Each hen will give ONE egg color. The egg color will not change from one egg being laid to another. An example is: If your hen laid a green egg, then don't expect the second egg to be pink.

I have seven EE's from them (six are female) and I'm hoping I get at least a few blue or green egglayers out of the bunch.

does anyone have pics of a hen that lays blue eggs but has a single comb/no muff? I have never seen one that didnt resemble an EE atleast in the small comb or wild looking eyes.

You wont find many that have a single comb but plenty without muff. Araucanas have a pea comb like most EEs but no muff and are often clean faced. The British Araucana and Ameraucana are where the muffs come in.

However the blue egg gene is dominant and to get blue eggs you dont want any brown so it stands to reason that the hatcheries would have breed the blue eggers with some white egg laying single combed Mediterraneans to make their mutts instead of mixing to brown egg layers.

Anyway I have plans the travesty needs to be mended.

The term easter egger merely means it was hatched out of a blue or green egg, not that it is gonna lay blue/green eggs although there is a fairly good chance they will; there will always be a chance of them not laying blue/green eggs. I have two easter eggers myself and one has dark feet (blackish) while the other one has the true amercauna green feet, I don't know if that has to do anything w/ eggcolor but it might.
