Anyone else have chickens that hate the color RED??

They are so very strange, aren't they?

The bottom of one of their waterers is red...that they don't seem to mind. Although, they definitely prefer the black rubber bucket and maybe that is why...now that I think about it. All I know is if I put something red in thier run, they all make one loud squawk and get very quiet as if something is going to attack them. Then, they run under the coop and hide! I read that they love tomatoes, so I was excited to give them to them. Little did I know I was going to traumatize the poor things!

I have two bachelor roosters who live in my horse barn. I feed horses using those red plastic Folgers coffee cans and I have a lot of trouble with the dominant rooster wanting to fight with the cans. If I toss one at him he will battle it around the barn aisle. He is not as bad with the darker maroon colored ones. I think it is funny but it annoys my hubbie to no end. This rooster is a Mottled Houdan so he looks a little cartoonish anyway which maybe why I'm amused and not annoyed.

I put a 100 watt infrared bulb in my small coop.
The light it emits is red, not orange like the larger bulbs. My Leghorn didn't mind it, but my RIR and BA juvenilles went nuts. They were terrified!
Removed it before they hurt themselves trying to get away from the light. This started almost immediately, so I know it was the color, not the heat.
