Anyone else have midget whites?

My midget are laying right now I just hatch this morning with 24 egg in the inucbator

So cute I can't wait for mine to hatch...Thanksgiving weekend...I'm only getting an egg every other day or less so I couldn't set more than 7 at a time I have 6 jennies but they are young I'm just happy to have some eggs later I'm sure to have too many

I had the best luck with the turkeys I hatched I'm sure there will be several of us with eggs to sell or swap. I have empty horse stalls to use for them and they do well with chickens until 18 weeks or so by that time they can go outside no matter how my weather is here. So if you have a place to keep them get them as early as you can then you will have birds to eat. Waiting for April is too late as far as I can tell.
 
I am not successful at hatching. I know this and don't want to waste my money with initial purchase on eggs that I will kill cause I don't know what I am doing. I will try if the birds I get will lay eggs.

Yeah but will the Midget whites get tough if they get too old....I want them for next years holidays for meat. I thought someone said 6 months on them?
 
I ordered poults from Welp they came from Texas the end of April they are laying eggs now from 15 that's the minimum that they will ship I have 9. Turkeys really don't ship all that great mine stayed in Burbank for a whole day for some reason I think they would have been much better without that wait but oh well I have 3 jakes and 6 jennies I'm eating the extra jake for Christmas @ 8 months the other heritage turkeys I hatched are a month younger and it looks like one will be our Easter turkey. It looks to me a year is the best for having them ready to process or 18 months. It's kinda like chickens you can process them younger but they are not filled out and don't have much fat if I'm going to go through all the trouble to raise them up I want them finished when I butcher them or it's a waste of my time...I do my beef like that too though it needs to be over 18 months old or I should just buy veal...

Oh my, thats twice as long as I thought. How much does that cost to raise them that long? That sounds just crazy. My feed cost $19 for a 50 lb bag. I don't want to wait my time and money on meat that is subpar.​
 
I'm eating my first one @ 8 months he looks pretty filled out the next one I do will be a different breed Auburn/bronze cross 10 months and the older ones I process will be culls from my breeding program...I'm hatching my own allowing 12 months so I don't have to feed that expensive feed turkeys do need higher protein for several months but they can eat finisher 16% and range around to eat bugs etc if you're not in a hurry for them to be ready to butcher it's like that 18 month old steer he eats grass grows slower has better flavor takes longer to finish you could put him in a lot and feed him hay and grain put an implant in and he would be ready sooner but the taste would be way different. Have you processed your own chickens? I do my culls from heritage dual purpose chickens I like roasters 8 or 9 months old cooked correctly there is nothing that you can buy to compare rich dark meat with texture not mush that you have to flavor with something for it to have a taste. I grow my own food for the taste and knowing the care I put in not for the cost though I try not to waste feed when you butcher your own you learn how to feel when they are ready just like I can look at my steer and tell he's ready too.

The Standard Bronze are a heritage turkey and smaller. They are still large birds our toms are waist high on me.
