It started Friday, we actually got a tiny little thunderstorm and a whopping 3/10" of rain. Said thunderstorm took out my AC unit control board, but we didn't know it was dead until 4 am Saturday morning when we woke up sweating.
Saturday I worked a raffle booth at the counties apple festival to raise money for our quilt club, was out there from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Asked hubby to start breaking down a bunch of pallets while I was there so we could build the run on Sunday. He watched football all day instead. Had the gaul to ask me what was for dinner when I got home

We didn't sleep Saturday night because of the heat. Had the AC guy come over on Sunday to tell us what was wrong with the unit, was told it was the defrost board and would be simple for us to replace ourselves without having to pay him $75 and hour to do it. We are BROKE so we figured it couldn't hurt. Started working on the run and it turned out nothing like what I had wanted it to since most of the pallets I had gotten were dry rotted. Seriously, the chickens may not care but it's an eyesore to my designing mind. Had issues with the pullets escaping their quarantine pen that evening and the roo yanking them through the fencing and trying to kill them. Was subsequently charged and attacked by the same roo and tossed his butt into solitary until I can get enough weight on him for dinner.
Didn't sleep Sunday evening.
I don't remember Monday but I know we haven't gotten an egg from our lone hen since Sunday. I think we fired up the grill too so as not to heat up the house any more than necessary.
Didn't sleep Monday night.
Tuesday I drove out to pick up a laying box for the coop that has only been pooped on or ignored for the last few days. Then drove a 150 mile trip to pick up a used board for the AC that hubby was able to track down. He installed it on his lunch break and the cool air was WONDERFUL.... while it lasted, by 6 that evening the inside temps were back up to 90

The fan motor had seized. He took it apart, WD-40'd the heck out of it to give us enough cool to sleep until 4 am.
Some sleep on Tuesday evening.
Hubby tracked down a fan motor and ordered it.... you can imagine since we are broke this has really screwed our finances way up, not even going to be able to buy meat this month. Long live bean soup! Halfway through Wednesday it began to rain. Seriously we haven't had rain in months, real rain that is, not a passing sprinkle. Got home and managed to get all the windows all the way open (have escape artist indoor only cats, can't leave anything open) and put fans in every one of them and it got below 85 in the house! Not like we keep it really cold in here either, we usually set the AC to 80 most of the summer with 75 at night.
Still had to WD-40 the heck out of the AC to get it to run last night until about 4 this morning.
Fan came in and hubby started work on it around 5 pm, he just now finished and it's close to 11. Cool air is running.

All this time I've had an incubator running without needing the light on for heat and the humidity is all over the place....

And I just want to sleep in to at least 9 tomorrow!!!

There are things I know are worse than no a/c, but nothing makes my temper shorter or my panic faster than getting too warm. Nothing. For some reason in some ways it rates worse than DH's near heart attack last winter. I just lose it when I get too warm.
Did the fire ants get into it? That happened to me once. And lightening. And just too old, too small and too crappy to limp along one more day.

Best wishes for it all.

I know what Texas is like without air

What we used to do when we were younger was have a window shaker as a reserve if the big one went out. Then we all camped out.

Sorry to hear that debiraymond. Sometimes the world shuts down on you. My prayers are with you and your husband.

And I am glad I don't live in Texas! Hot and humid. At least here we only have hot.

Have you ever thought about a swamp cooler? I love mine. It cools whatever room you are in so well and quite cheaply. Just need some electricity and water. It is hard to regulate though. Just on or off, high or low.

Even though I grew up in FL I still have issues with heat so being hot all night really gets to me. Humidity is no problem actually, prefer it humid to dry and out here it's been dry with no rain for a month and this never ending drought.

AC WORKED last night, all night!! Worked so good I had to adjust the heat on the bator a few times. And right now I'm able to sit here and type without melting!! In case of this ancient unit keeling over on us again we are saving up for an attic fan, have no clue why they didn't install one in here when it was built 40 years ago. At least the attic fan will keep things cooler at night if/when it's needed.

My hubby has been in the hospital from Friday til last night with heart trouble. It could always be worse.
