Anyone else keeping their ducks "All Cooped Up" because it is too cold for them to "Play Outside" wi

OMG.... good thing I sent a private message to Miss Lydia with a better answer just now. Almost the entire U.S. counts as the cold part today, doesn't it!!!!!!

You know it!!! Wowza. 5 and windy here. The duckies got an opportunity to go outside. They trotted out, looked around a moment, and trotted back in. Done.

So glad I was able to set up their night pen to be about 85 to 100 square feet. It varies because sometimes I let them walk around outside their official area, just for the space, when they have to be in so long.

Yesterday here it was about 60F in the morning. By sundown, close to freezing. But that was good enough for the ducks to spend the day in the day pen. Yay.

Today, it is an indoor day for all of us. I am usually good about thermometers but for some reason moved the one I had for their night shelter and lost track . . . next time I go to town I think I will get one, maybe one with a humidity indicator, too.

Why, Miss Lydia...... 11 degrees sounds almost downright *balmy* in the U.S. right now!

Amiga, not quiet as balmy where you are at 5*.... and with the wind chill I bet it's a lot colder than that!

Yes, but we had a -40C windchill and yes, i know they don't feel that but the actual was not much better so truly there was no point in them being out... they'll be fine in the barns/coops. The cold brings out friendships lol

Going Quackers, I rarely see a *duck fight*. Every once in a while a few will *beak-bite* grab on to each other.

It is so cute to see how close some of them are. I love it when they snuggle with their faces close together and have their beaks resting against each other's faces. it is the cutest sight. They seem to have quite a few close friends they always want to be nearby.

How many ducks/drakes do you have canard?

I have Muscovy mainly so the boys will go at it to keep pecking order, plus my ladies can be feisty, all that said there is plenty of sweetness, between some members, i have witnessed grooming, sheltering of females by drakes and just in general "closeness" . My calls don't "fight" but the older two especially the female will jab at the youngers.. they are a quad so she sees them as competition.

Going Quackers.... sounds like you have *duck tv*. Plenty of excitement your way.

I used to see more fights when I had 3 different breeds & more males.

Miss Lydia, I have 1 drake & 9 females, so the drake is in heaven. They all flirt for his attention.

"Cu cluck cu clucking" & bobbing their heads at him.

I have all Pekin right now.

They are so cute, they make my heart melt!

I am forever a better person for having gotten to know ducks well.
