When I talked my husband into getting a "couple" chickens for the yard he seemed so stern about the idea.. Now with 14 chickies he seems to be just as excited as me... Heck I even talked my dad into taking 2 of our original 8 b/c they were bulling my little reds..lol

You know get 8, give away 2, replace with 8 more

My husband said 7 is enough. Then all of a sudden POOF we are breeders with more than 50 birds.

I am TRYING to "rub off" on one of my co-workers who is slightly interested. He's borrowed the Coops for Dummies book, mentioned some coops he's seen on the local Craigslist, and when he visited to help my landlady with some Manly Duties we two older ladies can't handle, he really enjoyed watching my flock. He also asks to see more photos on my cell phone every week.

I hope to bring him to the Dark Side. Mwaaahaahahahahhahahahaa

I am innocent. My husband and I said 12-15 to start. Then I explained that there was a long list of people wanting fresh eggs and these girls could support themselves. So, it went to 25-30. I have 37 and plan on another 13... plus a few extra for the 2 roos I know I have and the 5-8 I am sure I have. My husband doesn't seem to mind anymore. I swear, he's actually enabling my habit.

Tehehe my DH decreed 4 - 6 hens to be our max and I begged for a roo on the promise of eating the babies. He really didn't want chickens.

Originally I was given 10 assorted LF chicks, now 5mo, the 6 hens and 4 roos are still here.
Then I hatched 6 banties, now 2mo. At least 3 more roos still here.
Then I hatched 16 farmyard mixes, now 3wo and most look like boys.

He's actually eager for me to get some of the breeds I've been looking at. I thought he'd freak if I brought more home.

He told me he now likes my chickens, 'specially now they are starting to lay and the boys are almost table ready. Guess it really is rubbing off on him.

Ha! Chicken Math. I told mine I wanted a few chickens after we got our own house. Three days after closing I brought my babies home. He said three, I insisted on 4. Now that the babies are doing well and are about 5 days old.. and being on these boards way too much, Im hoping our feed store will get an exotic in on thier next shipment and it will be a Polish. I really really want one, but will need to get it before my current chicks get too big. I love my babies and really hope they are all girls, cause in my subdivision, its only hens.. and if I have a roo, he will go and Ill have to get a few more hens
